Fix You...

Before I tell this story I want to say that there are some immunizations that we choose to do for our children, some that we choose NOT to do, and some that we can not do because of Jackson's allergies. No need for debate on the subject ~ I thank God we have to right to choose what is right for our children.... now, on with the story:

Alexis and Jackson had to have Check-ups before they can attend summer camp, so we did that yesterday (Tuesday). On the way to the DR's office Alexis asked if she would get any immunizations and I told her that I wasn't sure. When we arrived they called Jackson back to have his finger pricked, no big deal ~ He didn't run or cry... he sat there while they took 2 little vials of blood. Then they took us into the room and informed me that Alexis would receive 3 shots.... and the DRAMA began! I explained that she had chicken pox 2 years ago, so she would NOT need that shot, but the other 2 were needed. OH BOY! I got an ear full from Ms. Alexis! I'm pretty sure that she will need therapy because her horrible mother allowed those horrible nurses to administer those horrible shots to her poor, pitiful arm! It took 2 nurses and myself to get those shots in her... then in the middle of all the chaos I heard Jonathan saying something. Keep in mind he is laying in his waggon with this huge incision in his back, while his sister is going nuts over 2 shots.... I turned around to see what he needed. He said "I'm singing a song for Lexi! Listen Lexi!" Then he proceeded to sing "Fix You" By Coldplay! While playing the meanest air guitar I have ever seen, He sang: "Tears stream down your face when you loose something you can not replace, tears stream down your face and I....! (Yes I play that song a lot in the car ~ Coldplay is one of my favs!) We all cracked up! Even Alexis cracked up! But then she was right back to a full blown hissy fit! But at least he lighten the mood, if only for a moment. The good news is that we finally managed to get the 2 tiny little shots in her arm and she was lived. Although she didn't speak to me for a little while. Good grief she is so moody these days!

They made both of them change into paper gowns, which embarrassed them to death! Jonathan said they looked like they were wearing toilet paper.
Alexis is healthy as a horse. Jackson has some issues. They think that he inherited a genetic disorder from me. I did not know that I had this disease when I gave birth to him... I just found out last year. So we are seeing a specialist in Atlanta next week, so that he can follow Jackson in case he starts to get sick. I have been really worried that Alexis or Jack would inherit this from me, but I have been careful NOT to discuss it in front of them... so he doesn't know what this is all about. I figure there is no reason to worry him with it... at least not until we know more about what this could do to him. More than likely he will be an adult before he starts to really see the signs of the disease.

So after our adventurous morning at the Dr we went home and did school and later in the afternoon we went to the YMCA for a workout and swimming. I was on the bike spinning my legs off, getting a get workout, when I hear "Holly Trawick your needed in the infant room" They are keeping Jon-Jon in the infant room while he is flat on his back so none of the wild kids knock him over in his waggon. So anyway, I stopped the bike and attempted to walk briskly to the infant room, but I have never tried to just hop off the bike after going really fast for 20 minutes.... I usually do a cool down before attempting to walk! So as I walked the room started to move and I nearly walked right into another piece of exercise equipment! I felt like such a dummy. When I finally made it to Jonathan he just needed to go potty, so I took care of that and went back to my workout. Jack and Alexis are working out with me, which I think is pretty cool. I love going to the YMCA! We are so blessed to have that facility in our community.

Today (Wednesday) I got the kids ready for a busy day and decided as a treat we would go get a biscuit for breakfast rather than eating at home. Well as we were sitting in the drive thru Alexis' Piano teacher called my cell and canceled her lesson for the day. I'm flexible, but I draw the line when I have just got myself and 3 kids out the door on time in order to be at piano. He does this type of thing frequently and it is getting on my last nerve! Thank goodness we only have a few more lessons for the year! Because we were already in town I just rode around until it was time for Jonathan's therapy. He did a little better today. I am so impressed with the improvement we see each and everyday. I thank God that this option now exists for people with CP!

Jackson was suppose to have rowing today, but it was canceled due to the weather. So then it was on to Jonathan's IEP meeting at his school. The teachers and therapists were all so wonderful. All of our requests were met. Jonathan will be in a typical classroom with typical children (not Special Ed). He will still received services, but he will not be pulled out of the classroom. This was important to me because Jonathan is above average in his cognitive skills. In other words, his CP only affects his motor skills. To me, it was very important for him to be in a typical classroom where they could challenge him with new things to learn VS. him being in the Special Ed class again and being board then acting out due to boredom! Thank Goodness the teachers/therapist agreed with me. They told me that in some areas Jonathan scored as high as a first grader! He's only 4!!!

Tonight, after I had fed everyone dinner... Alexis and I decided to have some girl time. We went for a manicure and pedicure. If only we could get away like that more often!

So tonight I'm going to leave you with Jonathan's favorite Coldplay song. Enjoy!
