Ok, I have gotten so many phone calls about the comment I made in last nights post about the needle in Jonathan's back.... Evidently in my sleepy state I did not tell the whole story. I barley even remember typing it out. Let me explain, Every since the surgery Jonathan has been convinced that there is still a needle in his back. I have even taken a picture of his back with my digital camera to prove to him that there is NO needle back there, but he still thinks that there is one, so I told him he could discuss it with the Dr. So as soon as Dr Boydston walked into the room Jonathan said "Dr Boydston you left a needle in my back! You need to take it out!" There really isn't one in there, but Dr Boydston explained that when you cut into the spine cord it causes the patient to have strange sensations ~ some people feel the pins and needles feeling much like you would feel when you foot goes to sleep, some people have sharp pains, some have an electric shock type pain. So, he doesn't have a needle in there, but to Jonathan it sure feels like there is one back there. Dr Boydston tried his best to explain that to Jon, but those of you that know Jonathan, know that once he gets something in his mind he is not going to let go of it. I have decided to just go with it.... now I just ignore him when he says it and I ask him if I can get him something like a drink or a toy.
Last night after typing the blog entry I went back to the room. The nurse and I gave Jonathan a good sponge bath, changed his bed linens (which was difficult when your not suppose to move the child that is in the bed), gave him his night dose of morphine. One of the nurse techs had agreed to sit with Jon while I got some much needed sleep (after being awake for around 64 hours straight), so I headed off to the parent sleep room. I fell asleep around 10 or 10:30... then the parent in the room next to me decided to go in and out of her room several times, slamming to the door. Then she started talking on her cell phone! Obviously she didn't read the many signs on that hall that say "NO Cell phone" and "Please be quite!" So around 11pm I got up and said "BE QUIET! Stop slamming the doors... the rest of us are down here to sleep!" Obviously she was not as desperate for sleep as the rest of the parent that were down there! But the good thing is that I did not hear another peep out of her! LOL!
I woke up at 6am and headed back down to Jonathan's room. He had kept his nurse's aid on her toes. When I walked into his room he was wide awake watching PBS kids and the nurse said "your son is a trip! He sure does know a lot for a 4 year old!" That's my Jon-Jon!!! :)
I sat down beside his bed and talked to him. I quickly informed me that the "lallo (yellow) Dr told him that he could get in a wagon and go see the fish in the lobby" I though surely he had dreamed this up, but the nurse aid said no his nurse told him that! (FYI the yellow Dr was the nurse with the blond hair) For crying out loud!!!!! This kid can not be moved and someone promised him he could go see the fish!!! GREAT! The Dr walked in around that time and Jonathan informed him of his big plans for the day. He had to break the bad news to Jon that he could not do that. Jonathan cried!! The good news is that maybe tomorrow if the incision looks good and things go well then maybe, just maybe, we can put him in a wagon lying flat and pull him down to see the fish, but that nurse should have never promised him something like that! After I finish with this post I am going down to take pics of the fish, so I can at least show him what they look like.
The good news is that Jonathan is eating like crazy! They have now taken him off morphine completely because he has pulled his second IV out. He is just getting Tylenol with codeine. So things are looking better and better!
I thought of a neat thing for our blog readers to do for Jonathan. Because he LOVES the cards that he has been getting and he even asks me to read them to him over and over... I thought that our blog readers could either post a comment for Jonathan to read OR email me a little note just for Jonathan. I will print them off and take them back to the room, so that he can see them and I can read them to him. If you want to email something send it to: hollynht@gmail.com
I will hopefully be able to post again tonight.
Keep those prayers coming!

So glad you clarified the "needle" story. Hope you two had a restful evening last night. I can't imagine how anyone can sleep in a hospital. Looking forward to hearing more about Jon-Jon's amazing progress.
Good to hear from you. Prayers to continue.
